A Glimpse of the Future

For years, Pininfarina, the Italian design team responsible for Maserati and Ferrari, waited to endeavor into the world of hospitality. Careful consideration was required to ensure the property selected would embody the Pininfarina tradition of expressive design, unparalleled quality, and sophisticated luxury, Upon first touring the Keating Building, their search came to a halt and the first hotel development project began for the company.

To create an experience like no other, Pininfarina began by removing features typically found in the average hotel. Interior walls were amongst the first to go; this combination of the warm (bed) and wet (bath) zones creates a loft-like feeling in every room. Next eliminated was a large lobby with "hiding places" to avoid interaction; our lobby is aimed to engage every guest, every encounter. Other casualties included traditional drapes and carpeting; resin-sealed cement flooring and black-out shades have been used in place of these to heighten cleanliness standards and allow a true deep clean between each & every guest. Stainless steel has been used throughout the hotel, from the lobby to the guestroom, in combination with custom wood furniture, accentuating the sleek, clean lines of the Italian design. A color scheme of black and white with Ferrari red in public spaces contrasting with light grey and soothing blue throughout the guestrooms represents signature notes of Pininfarina and America's finest city, San Diego.

When placing the final touches within each stanza, attention to each detail was diligently paid. Only the highest quality amenities available are acceptable; products include Bang & Olufsen, Dornbracth, Sealy Temperpedic, and Frette.

Pininfarina Extra

Under leadership of Chef Executive Officer, Paolo Pininfarina, Pininfarina Extra was founded in 1986. The goal was to expand the perfected levels of design and quality to industrial companies operating outside the automotive industry. Over the past 25 years, Extra has earned a reputation and brought recognition back to the already world famous brand with successes like Lavazza Espresso Machines, and the Alpha Morphosis Jacuzzi tub – both found at the Keating Hotel.
